Geyserville and nearby Alexander Valley are in line for road and bridge improvements leading to River Rock Casino.

Disputes over tribal membership have flared up again within the Dry Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians, prompting an indefinite postponement of the election for its board of directors, which runs River Rock Casino near Geyserville.

Healdsburg, Geyserville and the County of Sonoma are getting more than $118,000 from a fund established to offset the impacts of River Rock Casino. Most of the money is going to the county to build a path next to Geyserville Bridge to make it safer for pedestrians

For the second consecutive year Sonoma County has more school districts on the state’s financial watch list than any other county in California. “In fairness to all of these districts, the state financial crisis has really exacerbated their problems,” said Denise Calvert, deputy superintendent of the Sonoma County Office of Education.

More schools in Sonoma County are on precarious financial ground than anytime since the early 1990s. Seven of the county’s 40 school districts won’t meet minimum standards for cash flow and reserves. Expect more cuts and teacher layoffs.
