WSC readers now have ‘The Last Word’

Today we’re introducing a new feature on Watch Sonoma County called “The Last Word” – a write-a-caption contest for a political cartoon drawn by Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Mike Peters of the Dayton Daily News. See the box below.

What would you do if you had my job?

One of the hardest parts of my job as moderator of Watch Sonoma County is deciding where to set the bar for commentary. Many of you disagreed with my decision on Friday to prevent the use of the term “anchor baby.” What standards would you use to moderate comments if you were in my chair?

Meet the Candidates

This year, WSC is giving local candidates space to speak with you directly, unfiltered, in their own words. It is a chance for you to compare candidates’ answers to common questions on issues that are shaping our communities — and discuss their responses with other voters.

Putting a face on your comments

Today, we are introducing a new feature on WSC that will make it easier to post comments on the site, connect with your friends and, we hope, improve the level of conversation in our online community. See what’s new.

Let’s talk about comments

Some of you think we’ve been too lax with comments recently; others think we’ve been too heavy handed with the “delete” button. Site moderator Ted Appel offers a few thoughts on what we’re trying to create here as WSC celebrates its two-month anniversary. Got feedback? We’re listening.

Welcome!

Today, we are opening a new window to view the fast-changing political scene in Sonoma County. I’ll be your host. Let’s get the conversation started.
