Can’t we get ‘grants’ to fix the roads ? Even though that is one of the EXPECTED duties of government ? Besides, if you offered 1/2 the money for a firefighter salary, you would have a qualified line around the block to apply. Legal theft.

The federal government is for all intents and purposes broke. Any money it “grants” is now borrowed money. Since we are all citizens (or at least residents) of this country, we have a duty to take actions that ensure a solid fiscal situation, even at the federal level. Cities, counties, and states are not completely independent entities that can view the federal goernment as a stash of “free money.” It’s not free!

Also, although this article reports that the new firefighters will be “hired at lower salaries and with less generous benefits than existing employees”, if one divides the $2.6 million by nine (employees) and two (years), one gets over $140,000 per hire. That’s not peanuts — AT ALL.

There’s just GOT to be something wrong with the City accepting federal funds to provide essential services.
