The wells you speak of tap into what is called the Russian River Aquifer. It is recharged primarily by the Russian River itself (through the gravel that Syar and others mine from the river and its banks) and secondarily through rainfall. As the soil in Rohnert Park is adobe clay, very little rainfall makes its way to the aquifer.

The City of Rohnert Park has its own wells tapping into the RR aquifer. They have pulled out so much water without it getting recharged that many private well owners in the area (especially at the edges of the aquifer in Penngrove) have had to drill their wells deeper to remain functional. I have heard that this has led to the entire Rohnert Park area sinking. After all, each year, new areas flood that never did before. The casino pulling more water out of the aquifer spells disaster for their neighbors and their private wells.

There is a pipeline that carries water south to Petaluma and North Marin. Yes we supply water to Marin. This pipeline was put in 60+ years ago with a 50-year lifetime. Can you say oops?

Also a few years ago, the state ordered the Sonoma County Water Agency to reduce their water “take” by 20%. As we currently stand, Sonoma County has at least 30% more development than the SCWA can supply water.

Whether the water comes from the SCWA or wells that tap into the same source, Sonoma County has a serious water supply problem. Too bad that you’ll never read about it in the PD as people they helped put into office made it happen.

The Russian River will be out of water by 2020.

Yes, RP will give them a sewage hookup. The stated reason was they feared an enviro consequence too terrible to do otherwise, and that it would directly affect RP. I guess the city doesn’t feel the same toward some landowners in the unincorporated area.

They are hooking up to RP City sewer, how is water any different? The tribe and the Las Vegas mob own the RP City Counsel, lock stock and barrel.

I have a close friend down the road, she got the notice and chose not to bother as she is farther away. I don’t think that she will be effected as it is lowland and has good percolation in that area of Stony Point Road.

In these ‘modern times’, it seems that we have strayed from real common sense. I see no common sense here, just some ‘regulations’ and temporary so called solutions.

What happens when someone’s well runs dry after the 3 years ? Does Home Depot and Walmart nearby run wells too ? Why can’t they use county water as a portion ?
