THE PRESS DEMOCRAT
With only two candidates running for two seats on the Windsor Town Council, the Nov. 6 municipal election has been cancelled.
Councilwoman Debora Fudge filed papers to seek re-election. But only one person, Bruce Okrepkie, decided to run for the remaining seat held by Scholar, who decided not to run again.
The council appointed Fudge to another four-year term. Okrepkie, an insurance broker and Windsor planning commissioner, was also appointed for four years.
Scholar had misgivings about cancelling the election, the second time in two years that has occurred in Windsor.
Although she acknowledged it is highly unlikely anyone would conduct a write-in campaign, Scholar said it is still important for the electorate to see who is on the ballot.
But the majority of council members said there has been ample opportunity for others to run and it was more important to save money in the general fund.
“The democratic process has been very much fulfilled,” said Councilman Steve Allen.
