CalTrans has gone on record as opposing the Rainier Ave. crosstown connector. They questioned the legality of the Deer Creek Plaza EIR because of it’s inclusion of Rainier in its traffic study. The City of Petaluma (well Healy with support of his cohorts on the council) are playing chicken with CalTrans. Unless they quit now and give up on Rainier, the only question will be “how bad will Petaluma lose here”.

Some political twits (Healy? Kearny? Chamber of Commerce? Rob Muelrath? Herb Williams? Police or Fire unions?) are doing a robo-call poll in Petaluma, asking people if they’d prefer to trade the money allocated for the Old Redwood Highway/101 interchange improvements for doing work on Rainier instead.

They forgot to mention in the polling question that that is illegal and not possible. The money allocated for Old Redwood interchange cannot be legally shifted to another project just because their hot-button push polls lead people to believe it can be. In addition, the work at Old Redwood interchange is already approved with design contracts already in place.

Rainier remains unapproved, undesigned, and most importantly, unfunded, because the people who have wanted this never wanted to pay for it, and never saved enough money for it over the past 25 years. No redevelopment money for this white elephant.

This is polling by and for idiots. Fortunately, voters do learn to ignore them.
