Thompson assures spot on November ballot

Rep. Mike Thompson’s bid for an eighth straight term in Congress was assured as he grabbed 72 percent of the vote Tuesday night.

Rep. Mike Thompson

Vying for second place in the new 5th Congressional District were two Republican newcomers, Randy Loftin of Napa and Stewart Cilley of Rohnert Park.

Loftin held the edge with 16 percent of the vote, while Cilley, an accountant and member of the Sonoma County Republican Central Committee, had 11 percent.

Absentees and almost half of the precincts had been counted.

Thompson, a St. Helena Democrat first elected to Congress in 1998, is positioned to overwhelm either Republican opponent in the November runoff.

It is quite clear most voters in our district dont care about the govt, the nation, the deficits, the fact Dems havent had a budget in 3 years. As long as the voters dont have to pay taxes (56% of this district dont pay federal income taxes, still get their unemployment check, and medical they will continue electing Dems who have ruined this nation! And most if not all never served in any military service!
