“The center’s high annual cost — about $1.4 million — and its declining population — down to average of eight girls since last summer — had made it a target for elimination in budget cuts since 2010.”

That’s about $175,000 per girl. Wouldn’t it be cheaper just to send them to private finishing schools out East?

Good move!
The more we can get Big Govt’s hands off the things private co.s can do, the better.
Businesses have a motive that Big Govt simply does not understand: profit.
Profit makes the world and the economy go ’round.
Without a motivation to improve services while cutting costs, the price for any service Big Govt delivers goes endlessly up and the quality plummets.
If the new operator cannot do the job another will be hired. With Big Govt monopolies these facilities turn inevitably into snakepit hellholes.
Privatize the operations while retaining ownership and control where possible.
Jails, Vets Bldgs, parks, all will benefit from private operation.
As will the overly burdened taxpayers.

The county is contracting out AGAIN. This will cost the county more in the end with less effective services for these girls.

I’m not going to accept that there are only 8 girls eligible for Sierra. How many girls are in juvenal hall? Plenty of girls getting in trouble in Sonoma County. Has the county deliberately kept the population down so they can close it?

Betcha they have.

Oh good, the cost of taking care of the girls PLUS a fat profit for a private company AND the cost of administering the contract.
