Sebastopol city manager leaving for Southern California job

Sebastopol’s city manager is leaving after about 3-1/2 years.

Jack Griffin has accepted a job as top administrator of San Marcos in San Diego County.

Jack Griffin

Griffin was public works director in nearby Chula Vista before becoming Sebastopol city manager in January 2009.

His new position at the helm of the city of 80,000 people comes with a $49,000 raise over his current salary of $140,000.

His last day is May 24.

Sebastopol’s city attorney, Larry McLaughlin, will serve as interim city manager, at least through the November elections, Mayor Guy Wilson said. Two councilmembers are up for re-election. The new council will decide how to handle any recruitment.

Wilson said Griffin’s move was a “great career opportunity.”

“I’m sorry to see him go,” Wilson said.

Yup, he’s been a good boy. It pays.

If the free market determines the salary of people in whatever position, how can you guys object?

Maybe you’re just too dumb to understand how hard these jobs are.

And take Hillary Clinton out of your argument. There are emotional rewards, especially if your already have the bucks.

Hand all your tax money to the lowest bidder? Sounds about right for this group.

When it comes to what city managers get paid, plus all the health & medical benefits and vehicle compensation, the ‘joke’ always been on the rest of us.

  5. Jerry Brown makes $173,000 a year.

Hillary Clinton makes $186,000 a year.

Mr. Griffin may or may not be comparably skilled, but Gov. Brown governs 37 million. Secretary of State Clinton represents 310 million Americans.

Mr. Griffin is responsible for 80,000 people.

His salary is $189,000 a year.

    Talk amongst yourselves.

I hope he takes the occupy tent with him when he departs.
I don’t blame him for leaving-it must be lonely to be one of maybe two people in the room that have any common sense at every council meeting.

Maybe Mr. Griffin can try to collect a “fair share” from the tent group (or individual, it appears) before he goes, for their use of the town square the past six + months.
At $350.00 per day, it should be a tidy sum by now, and could go toward those less fortunate who want to hold an event in the square, the arts, lawn restoration, or pay a portion of the salaries of Sebastopol elected officials, who allow the usually vacant Progressive Propaganda Palace to remain in the square indefinitely, without liability insurance.

If he is lucky, Jacks new position will not require him to advise the police to selectively enforce the law as this one has.
