Rep. Lynn Woolsey voted “present” when the House passed a resolution honoring U.S. intelligence agencies for the operation that killed Osama bin Laden.
She was joined on Thursday’s vote by three other Democrats – Dennis Kucinich of Ohio, Barbara Lee of Oakland and Pete Stark of Hayward – according to the Hill, a newspaper that focuses on Congress. Rep. Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, joined the 406-0 vote. A Senate resolution approved a week earlier on a 97-0 vote congratulated the military and President Barack Obama for the commando operation that killed bin Laden.
Woolsey, who is sponsoring legislation to end U.S. military involvement in Afghanistan, was traveling Monday and couldn’t be reached for comment on her vote. Her office released a written statement: “I have nothing but respect for the hardworking professionals in the U.S. intelligence community. But I felt that the Grimm amendment went beyond mere congratulations and included overly broad language that endorsed U.S. military engagement, without congressional approval, any time we suspect terrorist or al-Qaida activities. For this reason, I could not give my unqualified support to the amendment.”

Sad to see Ms. Woolsey on the same pathetic side as Barbara Lee, the single dumbest member of Congress ever to cast a vote.
To label Woolsey a “coward” for voting “present” is patently absurd. A coward is one who lacks courage or conviction. In her statement, she clearly spelled out her reasons for voting “present”. While I don’t necessarily agree with her perspective all the time, I think the woman has stones.
Before I surrender the floor to those who would resume their ritual dismemberment of our beloved 6th District representative, I’d point out that House GOP leadership refused to even consider any resolution honoring our service personnel.
Carry on.
Sonoma County elected and re-elected her repeatedly. She represents the mainstream view in Sonoma County. Her replacement will be a carbon copy. There’s nothing anyone here can do about it. We are therefore doomed to be without representation in the House of Representatives. You asked for it. You demanded it. You voted for it. You got. You bought your ticket, now take your ride.
Woolsey’s constituents get water boarded again.
In last years constituent update, Lynn Woolsey is seen posing with an unnamed man and woman. The caption below reads “Rep. Lynn Woolsey hands out congressional gold medals to members of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs) in her Santa Rosa office.”
No where is the WASPs name mentioned.
An oversight?
She is a coward, plain and simple.
@Reality Check…you need one! Woolsey is the worst kind of political leader. She holds herself above the people who elected her while pretending to support our causes. If she is against the war then she should have voted to not support any action. Her “present” was a slap at the brave men and women who represent our country.
Why do people vote for her?
Voting Present is legislative cowardice.
Par for the course for this welfare queen.
Oh, wait…didn’t O’bama spend his entire legislative career voting Present as well?
My mistake.
She must be running for President.
No surprise that Wooolsey voted in synch with those other far left stooges. Once a lunatic, always a lunatic.
I was a lifelong liberal until Bill Clinton instituted “Don’t ask, don’t tell.” It is the moral and legal responsibility of elected leaders to lead.
(For the record, I support gays in the military, but that’s not the issue here.)
By abdicating his duty to make a complex, polarizing decision, Clinton revealed a weakness that I have seen in far too many Democrats. Their pervasive softness is a large reason why I now support many conservative ideals.
I was pleasantly surprised by Obama’s new-found decisiveness, and will not join the chorus of conservatives who are nitpicking him to death about the details of killing bin Laden.
But Lynn Woolsey deserves our total contempt for this non-position. If she is wrong-headed enough to oppose this justified killing, she should vote her conscience. Merely voting present shows that she is truly absent in the fullest meaning of the word.
Lynn Woolsey is not just an embarrassment to the district she represents…but an embarrassment to all Americans and the human race as a whole.
GO AWAY….
Why wouldn’t Woolsey abstain to vote to congratulate the SEALS and CIA who killed bin Laden? Woolsey, Lee and Stark are anti-American and have not supported the actions to stop terrorism. They are very disappointed that it happened.
Why dim wits vote for these idiots is unfathomable.
It is also unacceptable that 90% of the news media in this country support these socialist, Marxists.
I have to give Woolsey points for sticking to her principles, however much I might differ on this. I like people who walk the talk.
Too many critics of Bush for the harsh interrogations he authorized are now silent while Obama orders drone attacks that kill indiscriminately. I’m afraid the anti-war movement has revealed itself to be a movement that’s anti-war when a Republican is in the White House.
By comparison, Woolsey stands tall.
