Little change in Cotati money race

Campaign fundraising and spending in Cotati’s city council election is little changed as Nov. 2 approaches, the latest campaign finance filings show.

Councilwoman Pat Gilardi, running for re-election, has raised an additional $3,187 since Oct. 1, $747 of it a personal loan to her campaign.

That brings to $6,407 the total amount she has raised. The finance statements, which cover the period Oct. 1 to Oct. 16, show that she’s spent $4,275 on her re-election bid.

Contributors to Gilardi’s campaign include Jill Ravitch, Sonoma County District Attorney-elect, who gave $100, and Harold Berkemeier, former Cotati mayor, who also gave $100.

Councilman Mark Landman, trying to retain the seat he was appointed to last year, and George Barich, running to reclaim the seat he was recalled from a year ago, have added little to their coffers.

Landman took in just $590 from three donors, including $350 from the Northern California Carpenters Regional Council. He has spent $2,238 on the election, $1,347 since Oct. 1.

Barich’s finance reports are unchanged in the latest period. He has loaned his campaign $5,000 and spent $4,285.

Those government grants Ms. Garcia doesn’t like- I wonder how she and the rest of the Barich clan feel about unemployment insurance and workers comp? Those are government programs in which many recipients never pay in as much as they take out- instead they get “grants” subsidized by the rest of us. Ms. Garcia calls it welfare, I call it part of the social contract.

And when it comes to fixing our streets I strongly suspect that if we didn’t get a federal grant to fix our roads, the Barich gang would be the ones loudly yelling about the potholes. I pay taxes and like getting soemthing practical back for it. Maybe if Ms. Garcia looked at it as a dividend on her tax dollars investment, she wouldn’t be so cavalier in rejecting aid that we need.

  2. Pat Gilardi looks “around every corner” for grants for the city of Cotati and Mark Landman only echo’s how money is attained. My question before this spend, spend Council is, during the financial crisis our Nation is going through, why would you want to spend the money from your constituents? Why do you keep going into our pockets? Do you think this money is manna from Heaven? Do you think it’s free money?

Cotati’s City Council is nothing more than Welfare Recipients looking for “free money” which isn’t free at all. They are taking money from us and the thought of prioritizing or saving for a rainy day have never been mentioned in their “Special Budget Meetings”. We are going to have to pay this money back and this debt will be on our children and grandchildren backs for decades to come!

The only one who will not take money from anyone, the only one with a sense of fiscal responsibility, the only one who responds to Cotati’s citizens, is the one, a hand full of ill will people, are making it their personal mission to keep from making a difference in this town. And now they are doing what they do best….vengeance, attacking and twisting facts.

George Barich is the only one who will listen to the voices of Cotati….ALL OF THEM, regardless if they are D or R, Conservative or Liberal, unlike those who sit in their chairs, looking down on us and refusing to respond to ANYONE who does not agree with them. While George Barich relies on himself, Gilardi and Landman rely on the tactics of a handful of evil doers in Cotati who have mastered their malicious ways.

I will be voting for George Barich this November 2, 2010 and only for him!
