Assembly debate canceled

Wednesday’s scheduled debate between three candidates seeking the 7th Assembly District seat has been canceled.

The League of Women Voters of Sonoma County was forced to cancel the debate at Santa Rosa City Hall because it did not have enough volunteers to host Wednesday’s forum, said Anita Lytle, who co-chairs the league’s voter service group.

“It had nothing to do with the candidates,” Lytle said.

Democrat Michael Allen, Republican Doris Gentry and Libertarian Kathryn Moore are vying for the seat currently held by Assemblywoman Noreen Evans, who is running for the state Senate.

Why does the League of Women Voters needs so many volunteers? Are they serving that much coffee and cake or do they need security at these debates? Seems to me like all they need is someone to introduce the candidates, ask a few questions about how they would resolve the state budget crisis; how they would reduce the size of the state government; cut spending; cut taxes and fix the public schools. Not rocket science.

Oh, I forgot, this is Sonoma County and we don’t talk about these things. We only want to talk about how we are going to increase taxes, state spending and increase the size of government to support our public unions who will put us in office. Darn, how did I get so confused? Sorry League and candidates.
